Usable Security Experiment Reports (USER) Workshop

The USER workshop is an opportunity for researchers to discuss their
experiences in conducting user studies in usable security, and for 
newcomers to learn from this collective experience. We hope to bring 
together researchers with backgrounds in security or usability, to 
share knowledge of how to collect appropriate data for conducting 
suitable security analysis and meaningful usability evaluation.


We seek experiment reports on user studies in usable security. These
should describe the experimental design and its reasoning, challenges
and how these were addressed, insight to improve future studies, and
reflections on the effectiveness or limitations of the study. We are 
also interested in novel approaches to quantitative or qualitative
data analysis to evaluate either security or usability, perhaps
drawing from approaches in other disciplines.  

Topics may include (but are not limited to):

** designing studies that reflect realistic user behaviour, 
** conducting realistic attack studies that fall within ethical 
   guidelines,
** collecting data that allows for appropriate security and 
   usability analysis,
** novel analysis techniques for security or usability,
** designing studies that allow for meaningful results while 
   meeting ethical guidelines,
** quantitative and qualitative methods of analysis

Researchers who are submitting results of user studies to SOUPS are
encouraged to also submit a USER workshop paper, discussing their
methodology and experience in more detail. We also encourage 
submissions of experiment reports for user studies intended for other
venues. Workshop papers should include new content, not simply repeat
methodological details already available in other papers about the
same work. Workshop papers will be available on the SOUPS website, 
but will not be included in the ACM Digital library. Authors of 
accepted papers will be invited to present their work at the workshop.

Note that SOUPS paper submissions will be judged independently of
USER workshop submissions.


SUBMISSIONS

We invite authors to submit original papers using the SOUPS formatting
template (LaTeX or MS Word). Submissions should be 2 to 6 pages in 
length, exclusive of any appendices for study materials (such as 
questionnaires, scenarios, tasks, institutional review board 
applications, etc.). The paper should be self-contained without 
requiring that readers also read the appendices. The appendices need
not conform to the formatting template. All submissions must be in PDF
format and should not be blinded.  Email inquiries and submissions
