Privacy Policy Study

Thank you for your interest in the privacy policy study. Please read this information before you begin.

The purpose of this study is to collect data that will improve on-line privacy polices. This research is part of a Carnegie Mellon study and is overseen by Professor Cranor. The study has been reviewed and approved by Carnegie Mellon University IRB. If you have any questions regarding your rights as a research participant or to report objections, contact CMU IRB at 412-268-1901.

The study consists of a series of questions about information you will read. The study takes about 15 minutes.

We will take the following steps to keep your data confidential: At the beginning of the study, you will be assigned a participant number. Any data such as the questionnaire will have this number code instead of your name. At the very end, we do ask for your name and contact information so we can notify you if you win the Amazon gift certificate. The drawing information is stored in a separate file from your answers so we cannot link your answers to your name.

Participation in this study is voluntary. You are free to decline to be in this study or to withdraw at any time, or to refuse to answer particular questions. To quit the study just close this window.

This study is only open to those who are over 18 years of age. Each person is only allowed to enter once. We have several fraud protection measures in place. We reserve the right in our sole discretion to disqualify any individual who is found to be tampering with the operation of the contest or attempting to commit fraud.

WARNING: In the next screen please do not use the back button in your browser. If you do, you will return to the beginning of the study and need to start all over again.

On the next page, you will see a privacy policy and a series of seven questions about that policy. Please answer the questions based on the information in the policy. Your browser will automatically resize.
